The worst thing that can happen to a homeowner is finding their home heavily damaged or
destroyed as a result of fire, water, or storm damage.  When this happens, most homeowners feel
overwhelmed with their loss.  To ease the burden, Rainbow Restoration, Inc. has the experience
and personnel to help you through these difficult times and get your home returned to its' pre-loss
condition.

  1. Your first step is to not get too overwhelmed with everything that has happened, take every
thing one step at a time.
  2. Report the loss to your insurance company.  The insurance company will assign an adjuster to
the loss and give you a claim number.
  3. The insurance adjuster will make arrangements to meet with you to discuss the loss and to
answer your questions about the process to repair the damage.
  4. If the damage is extensive enough to require you to find alternate living arrangements, your
adjuster will help you with the arrangements and issue you a check to compensate you for
your additional living expense (if coverage applies).  It is important for you to document all
your additional living expenses and turn all receipts into your adjuster for reimbursement.
  5. Choose a contractor to repair your property back to its pre-loss condition.  Most insurance
companies have a list of contractors that they have worked with in the past.  However,
Minnesota State law says that you have the right to choose your own contractor to repair your
home.  (Be sure to consider the contractors start to finish time for completing your project).
  6. Your insurance adjuster and the contractor will meet at your property to discuss the scope of
damage and the price to fix the agreed upon damage.
  7. Once you, your insurance adjuster, and your contractor have agreed on the scope of damage,
the insurance company will issue an insurance draft (check) to you to pay for the repair of your
property.  The check usually requires your mortgage company, your contractor, and your
    personal endorsement.
  8. If the damage is extensive enough, your personal belongings may need to be packed out,
cleaned and stored until the construction process is complete.  You'll want to choose one
contractor that can perform all duties and has the experience to restore your belongings to
    their pre-loss condition.
  9. Start the rebuilding process.  You will now meet with the contractor of your choice and discuss
the rebuilding process in complete detail.  Over the next couple of weeks, you'll need to pick
out many different items to repair the damage (paint color, stain color, carpet, vinyl, lights,
cabinets, etc.)  This is where you can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and can start
having some fun reshaping your property.  This is also the perfect time to make any changes
that you have longed to do; remove a wall, add a bathroom, install a bay window, etc...
